Performance Evaluation and Analysis of Rolechem's ARC-S28 Sulfonyl Fluoride Compound Series

I. Performance Summary and Analysis

Rolechem has launched its new additive, ARC-S28. This series belongs to sulfonyl fluoride compounds. As a sulfonyl fluoride additive, S28 can suppress the growth of HF and reduce the activity of LiPF6 decomposition products. Furthermore, this product can serve as an ideal alternative to MMDS, comprehensively outperforming it by significantly reducing cell impedance, improving low-temperature performance, enhancing cycling stability, and boosting rate capability. II. Evaluation Conditions

Cell Type: 1Ah pouch cell Chemistry System: LFP / Artificial Graphite Voltage Window: 2.5 V – 3.65 V Electrolyte Baseline (Ref): EC : EMC = 3 : 7 , 1M LiFSI, with 2% VC additive Control Group: 1% MMDS Experimental Group: 1% ARC-S28

III. Experimental Results

S28 significantly reduces cell impedance. Compared with MMDS, it shows a substantial decrease in impedance at both room and low temperatures, which is beneficial for the cell's low-temperature and rate performance. S28 exhibits a distinct film-forming reaction during the formation stage and can participate in the formation of the SEI. Furthermore, its reduction potential is higher than that of MMDS, allowing it to participate in film formation prior to MMDS. Due to its excellent low-impedance characteristics, S28 demonstrates outstanding rate capability, and its low-temperature performance is further improved compared to MMDS. Meanwhile, it has no significant impact on the cell's high-temperature performance, and its high-temperature cycling stability is basically on par with MMDS.

IV. Conclusion

In summary, ARC-S28 can serve as an alternative to MMDS. It significantly reduces cell impedance, improves low-temperature and rate performance, and enhances cycling stability, with overall performance comprehensively superior to that of MMDS.
