Recently, Rolechem attended the 2023 New Energy Industry and New Material System Development Summit Forum. Against the backdrop of growing battery demand driven by the growth trends of the global electric vehicle and energy storage markets, the new energy and new material industries are ushering in a new landscape. With the theme of "Global Development of New Energy, Ecological Integration of the Industrial Chain," this summit forum focused on the latest developments across the entire new energy material industrial chain, establishing seven sub-forums to conduct reports and exchanges on hot industry issues.

As the world's largest lithium battery production region, China has a planned production capacity exceeding 5 TWh, with completed capacity reaching 1,632 GWh as of 2022. In the first half of 2023, China's installed lithium battery capacity reached 16.75 GWh, surpassing the total installed level of the entire previous year, with a production output of 346 GWh, achieving a year-on-year growth of 25.3%. It is estimated that for the full year of 2023, China's lithium battery production will exceed 1 TWh, while the global total will reach 1.3 TWh, meaning China's lithium battery production will account for over 75% of the global share.

In overseas markets, Japanese and South Korean enterprises have a domestic planned production capacity of 165 GWh, with a completed capacity of approximately 59 GWh as of the end of 2022. South Asia and Southeast Asia currently have relatively less planned capacity, at around 32 GWh, with only 2 GWh built as of 2022. Europe, the primary destination for Chinese enterprises expanding overseas, currently has a planned capacity of 141 GWh, mainly distributed in Poland, Hungary, and Germany. The North American region holds significant growth potential, with a planned battery capacity of 840 GWh and a completed capacity of around 85 GWh as of the end of 2022.

Breaking down into the electrolyte industry, according to statistical data from ICC Sinoimex, the total global electrolyte production in the first half of 2023 was 562,000 tons, up 28.6% year-on-year. The total domestic electrolyte production was 463,000 tons, up 35.4% year-on-year. It is anticipated that for the full year of 2023, China's electrolyte production will reach 1,212,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 39.8%, and China's global market share of electrolytes is expected to further rise to over 85%.

While overseas battery production capacities under construction are gradually expanding, the upstream supporting capabilities have failed to keep pace. Up to now, overseas battery capacity has exceeded 1,800 GWh, which will be sequentially implemented over the next five years or so. It is estimated that by 2025, global lithium battery demand will reach 2 TWh, electrolyte demand will reach 2 million tons, and global electrolyte production capacity will approach 6.4 million tons.

Under the trend of accelerated global lithium battery layout, the novel lithium salt LiFSI has become a rising star with immense potential in the electrolyte industry.
